Plumbing in Granite Falls

Granite Falls sits on a plateau in the western Cascade foothills, about 407 feet up, between the South Fork Stillaguamish River to the north and the Pilchuck River to the south. It is the end of SR 92 and the start of the Mountain Loop Highway. The city grew from 1,060 residents in 1990 to 3,364 in 2010, and its wastewater plant, which discharges to the Pilchuck, reached substantial completion on a $34 million upgrade in February 2026.

The city buys its water from Snohomish County PUD. Its 2025 water quality report says most of it is Everett's Spada Reservoir water, blended with water from two PUD wells in northeast Lake Stevens that began producing in September 2012. PUD water enters the city system at five points, where pressure-reducing valves drop it from 160 psi to between 60 and 90 psi, then flows through more than 16 miles of city mains to over 1,700 connections.

Local know-how

What's hard on plumbing in Granite Falls.

Get ahead of frozen pipes

The city's own water page links guidance on preventing and thawing frozen pipes in this foothill town. Insulate crawlspace and exterior lines, disconnect hoses before hard freezes and learn where your main shutoff is. If a pipe bursts, call our 24/7 line.

Sewer hookups are open again

Granite Falls lifted its 2018 sewer moratorium on February 1, 2026, after the treatment plant upgrade. If you're building a new home or adding a unit, we handle the drain and sewer line work with a written price before we start.

Heaters in 2000s-built homes

45% of Granite Falls homes were built since 2000, and tank water heaters typically last 8 to 12 years, so many original heaters may be due for replacement. We install tank and tankless models, gas or electric, at an upfront price.

Good questions

Granite Falls plumbing FAQ.

Don't see your question? Call or text (425) 845-3535. A real person answers, 24/7.

Where does Granite Falls get its water, and is it hard?

Granite Falls buys its water from Snohomish County PUD. The city's 2025 report says most of it is Everett's Spada Reservoir water, which averaged a very soft 12.5 ppm of hardness in 2025, blended with water from two PUD wells in Lake Stevens. PUD's blended Lake Stevens system averaged 108 ppm, so hardness at your tap depends on the mix. The city's 2024 inventory found no lead service lines.

Why is my water pressure so high in Granite Falls?

PUD water reaches the city at about 160 psi, and city valves reduce it to between 60 and 90 psi. Washington's plumbing code, the Uniform Plumbing Code, requires a pressure regulator when static pressure exceeds 80 psi, to limit water hammer and protect fixture and appliance valves. If your pipes bang or your water heater relief valve drips, we can test your pressure and replace a failing regulator.
