Plumbing in Bothell

Bothell was platted in 1888 and incorporated in 1909, but it stayed rural until suburban housing arrived after World War II. Annexing Canyon Park in 1992 made it a two-county city and added 11,400 residents; a 2014 annexation brought in another 1,005 acres of King County and 6,000 people. Downtown redevelopment added about 1,300 apartments and townhouses by 2020.

The city finished its sewer system in 1960, switched its water from local wells to Seattle's Tolt pipeline in 1963, and joined the Metro regional sewer system in 1967. Today the city utility serves about 8,500 homes and businesses from three reservoirs holding 6.9 million gallons. Its lead service line inventory flagged about 750 properties built in 1966 or earlier, physically checked about 150, and found no lead service lines.

Local know-how

What's hard on plumbing in Bothell.

Identify any polybutylene supply lines

About a third of Bothell homes date from 1980 to 1999, the era of polybutylene supply pipe (roughly 1978 to 1995). Beaver's can identify the pipe you have and quote a flat-rate PEX or copper repipe if it needs to go.

Rubber-tasting water? Check the hose

Bothell's water utility says a garden hose left on with the nozzle shut can push water back into the house through thermal expansion, so tap water tastes like rubber. Shut the hose bib and run the tap a few minutes; Beaver's fixes dripping bibs.

Newer homes, aging water heaters

Almost four in ten Bothell homes were built since 2000, and tank water heaters typically last 8 to 12 years. If yours is original and showing rust, leaks or lukewarm water, Beaver's repairs or replaces tank and tankless models, gas or electric.

Water running right now?

Shut off the main water valve, turn off the water heater, and call us. Our emergency line answers 24/7.

Good questions

Bothell plumbing FAQ.

Don't see your question? Call or text (425) 845-3535. A real person answers, 24/7.

Who provides water in Bothell?

It depends on your address. Alderwood Water & Wastewater District serves Canyon Park and the northern neighborhoods, the City of Bothell serves downtown and nearby areas, Northshore Utility District serves western and southern Bothell, and Woodinville Water District covers a small southeastern area. Each also manages sewer for its area. The city's interactive map, COBMap, shows the provider for any address.

Is Bothell's water hard?

No. The City of Bothell's water quality report says plainly that its water is soft, and the Tolt supply it buys from Seattle Public Utilities measured 24.8 mg/L of hardness in late 2025. Canyon Park and other northern neighborhoods served by Alderwood get Everett's Spada Lake water, which averaged 12.5 mg/L in 2025. Both are soft on the USGS scale, whichever of the city's water providers serves you.
